For so many years, I spent hours thinking about 'what was my thing'.. 'what am I good at'... I have always been very creative and hands on. From a young age, I was always 'that friend' that did everyone else's hair and make up. I completed my certificate 2 in hair dressing, and my certificate 3 in beauty therapy and also completed a spray tanning course. I knew I was destined to do something that incorporated my creative side.
It was the day of my daughter Leila's Kindergarten Spring Fair. She was so excited about getting her face painted, but also super excited about all the other activities going on that day. the line up was enormous for the face painting (as always!).. So Leila decided she would participate in other activities and 'come back' to the face painting once the line had gone down. Unfortunately, face painters at events like this, stick to an agreed start and finish time. This meant Leila devastatingly missed out on having her face painted. When I saw her little lip drop (basically to the floor), there was no way I could let her be this devastated.
So, it was Mum to the rescue. I searched every draw, every cupboard and bingo, I managed to find some old crappy face paints they had hiding in a box. The kindergarten director, Trudi, loveliest lady ever, allowed me to use their paints so I could turn that frown upside down!
At that stage, I had no idea what I was doing. I painted a few swirls and curls, and a flower or two.. next minute, I had this little line beginning to progress of all the other children that also missed out. At the time I was saying "umm, just so you know, I am no professional but hey if you missed out, Im happy to give something a try!' So that is exactly what I did.. And the kids absolutely loved it. I had never done any face painting before, but seeing the smiles on the kids faces, from that moment, I just knew.. I HAD FOUND MY THING!!
